November 2, 2018 (Bremen, GA) – Heard County quarterback Alijah Huzzie threw two touchdown passes and set up another with a 69-yard pass to lead the Braves to a 20-7 win at No. 7 Bremen Friday night at Blue Devil Stadium.

The win clinches a second straight Region 5-AA title for Heard County.

The game was actually a tale of two halves with the two teams combining for just 96 yards of total offense in the first half and the only points came on a safety when the Heard County defense tackled Bremen’s Tyran Dobbs in the endzone early in the second quarter.

After completing just one pass in the first half, Huzzie’s first pass in the second was a 69-yard strike to Ayden Cannon that gave Heard County a first down at the Bremen one.

Fullback Andrew Leak powered in on the next play to give the Braves an 8-0 lead.

Heard County drove back down the field on their next possession with Huzzie connecting with Quincy Shepherd for a 29-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 14-0 as the Braves failed to convert a second straight extra point.

Down by two scores, the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard with Adam Wainright finding Dobbs out of the backfield for a 38-yard touchdown that cut the Heard County lead in half late in the third quarter.

Bremen’s defense got the ball right back for the offense and Wainwright went back to the air to complete a 29-yard pass to Jimbo Brown that gave the Blue Devils the ball at the Brave 30-yard line.

The drive to potentially tie the game ended when Heard County defensive end Zaylin Wood deflected Wainwright’s pass on 4th down with just over five minutes to play.

The Braves appeared as if they were looking to run the ball to run out the clock but Huzzie delivered the decisive blow with 59-yard touchdown bomb to Shepherd to seal the 20-7 victory for the Braves.

Heard County (8-2, 7-1) now return home to face Monticello in the first round of the GHSA playoffs and Bremen (8-2, 6-2) earns the #3 seed and will be on the road in Blairsville to play Union County.
